OCEAN – SUMMER EXHIBITION AT BILDHALLE AMSTERDAM

Bildhalle will present sixteen artists who explore the motif of the ocean, each with a different aesthetic approach. I’m proud to be one of the artist how will be part of this beautiful show “Ocean”

For thousands of years, people of all civilizations have been intrigued by the ocean and have pictured it in a diversity of artistic forms. The ocean is the source of life on earth and symbolic of the unbounded spectrum of animate being. The infinite movement of these masses of water also symbolizes stability. Conversely, the oceans may also stand for formlessness and chaos and, in the interpretation of dreams, for the collective and personal unconscious.

THE ARTIST THAT WILL BE PRESENT DURING THE OPENING:

CASPER FAASSEN // BASTIAAN WOUDT // THIRZA SCHAAP // PAUL CUPIDO // ILONA LANGBROEK // JEFFREY CONLEY // PHILIPP KEEL // AMY FRIEND // ALBARRÁN CABRERA // SANDRO DIENER // THOMAS HOEPKER // MARTIN BOGREN // WERNER BISCHOF // KACPER KOWALSKI // RENATO D’AGOSTIN // RACHEL THOMSON

OPENING DAY: Saturday, 4 June: 12:00 – 19:00 H.
Exhibition lasts until Saturday, 10 September 2022

Willemsparkweg 134H, Amsterdam

Museum Catalog "Twist" - Order Now

The exhibition Twist in Museum Kranenburgh (16 April – 18 September 2022), in Bergen, is my first solo museum exhibition. Together with guest curator Eliane Odding, i’ve put together a careful selection of my studio and travel photos, a concise representation of his work from recent years.

For this important occasion, 1605 Publishers together with me has created a museum catalog Twist. A minimalistic and elegant publication where apart from discovering Woudt's experiments around form, structure and materiality, you can find a plan of the exhibition with a list of titles of the work, their dimensions and location.

"HOW TO PHOTOGRAPH LIKE BASTIAAN WOUDT"

Many of you probably already know Bastiaan Woudt - a Dutch photographer, master of black and white portraiture and mystic landscape photography. His images are elegant, minimal and very sleek. Independently if he is photographing a fashion campaign in his studio or a still life outside somewhere in Morocco.

Bastiaan Woudt began his journey into photography by learning techniques from his favourite photography masters Irving Penn and Richard Avedon and developed his unique style by experimenting with classical studies and adding to these images a modern twist.

Despite his inspiration with vintage photography, antique sculptures and classical postures and lighting, Woudt by far is a modern photographer. Because he isn't just inspired by the past, but in his work, the past inspiration intervenes with modern editing techniques. Bastiaan Woudt manages to put hope and melancholy, purity and ambiguity, unity and plurality to dance with each other in one single frame. How does he do it?  - READ MORE

"Twist" Museum show at Museum Kranenburg

It is with great pride that I announce my very first solo exhibition at Museum Kranenburgh (Bergen, the Netherlands). Over the past few months I have been working very hard to create an exhibition that will make a real impact. 'Twist' consists of approximately 26 (large format) works from galleries, institutional and private collections and will be on view to the public from 17 April through 18 September 2022.

The opening took place on Friday April 15 and what a success it was! I want to thank everyone for the great reactions! And if you haven't seen the show yet... Go and see it!

Very proud to say that my work will be exhibited at Photo London this year. Atlas Gallery will present my work at the fair (12-15 May, 2022). Be sure to check out their booth in the tent at Somerset House.

Solo exhibition Museum Kranenburgh

People often ask me, what are your dreams? What are your goals for the coming years? My answer is simple: when your dreams and goals come true, just create new dream and goals! I truly believe that when you write-down your dreams and goals with clear intention, they will come true eventually. Because you start working towards them consciously and unconsciously, slowly but surely getting closer and closer.

One of the highest goals within my career has always been to create a solo exhibition in a museum.

With great pride I can announce my first ever solo exhibition at Museum Kranenburgh (Bergen, The Netherlands). In the past months I’ve been working extremely hard to create an impactful exhibition. ‘Twist’ consists of approx. 26 (large format) works from galleries, institutional and private collections and will be open to the public from April 17th until September 18th 2022. Such a serendipitous moment, as I grew-up in Bergen.

A dedicated museum catalogue will be published by 1605 Publishers. This printed document in small edition, will include: images of all works + background information, overview images, maps and general information about ‘Twist’.

About Museum Kranenburgh:

Museum Kranenburg is a pillar within the cultural identity of artists village Bergen. The museum is praised for addressing current social themes with high-profile exhibitions, which are known to garner national media attention.

Interview at “The Eye of Photography”

Last month during Miami Art Week 2021, The Selects Gallery had the privileged opportunity to chat to Dutch photographer Bastiaan Woudt at his solo show presented with Jackson Fine Art Gallery at Art Miami fair. We have been following the work of this photographer, who despite no formal training, has developed his photographic expertise in just ten short years and was exhibited Musee du Louvre in 2015 and Fotographiska in 2016 and 2018. Inspired by photography from the 1950s, 60s and 70s, and the works of fashion photography masters such as Man Ray, Irving Penn and Richard Avedon, Woudt’s ‘monochrome minimalism’ creates an immediately recognizable and personal visual style. He focuses on elegant and restrained forms that almost become abstract through extreme contrasts of black and white monochromes and highly stylized definition.

We spoke to Bastiaan about his personal style and vision, his new retrospective book ‘Rhythm,’ and his spectacular expedition to mountains of Nepal.

Artist in Residence, Concervatorium Hotel

The Conservatorium Hotel has invited me as 'artist in residence' to surprise hotel guests with my Fine Art photography.

For the occasion, a Royal Duplex Suite of 71 m2 was transformed into a veritable Bastiaan Woudt photo gallery. The suite with an elegant, contemporary design with natural colors and dark wooden floors, lends itself as the ideal base to showcase my fine Art photography. Guests can observe the works of art spread over two floors and at the same time enjoy beautiful views over the streets of Amsterdam.
